Okay, tonight we have Star Poker Bray's €25 rebut tournament (Fridays and Saturdays are the same). Starting at 8.00pm and a starting stack of 10k, with 15 blinds, you can rebuy if your busted before the end of the first break (9.30pm). This is not an add on/Top up, its a rebuy so unless you have no chips you cant rebuy. Refreshements available throughout and food served at the break. I believe they get up to 30 runners on a Saturday. Good luck at the tables.....

3 tournaments tonight for you, if any of them tickle your fancy:

1st up is Doyles in Rathnew, €20 buy with 3 max €10 top ups(if by chance your unfortunately knocked out by the break, you can by the dead stack and topups for another €50). All money paid in goes back out in prizefund. Starts around 8/8.30 and usually gets 2 tables. Cash game available after if interested. I have never played here so cant comment on standard, blinds stacks etc.

2nd is The Mountkennedy Inn, Newtown. €20 buy, with 1 top up of €20. 10k starting stack and the same amount for your rebuy/topup with 20 min blinds. Again anything paid in goes back out in prizefund and usually gets 2 tables and starts at 8. This is a good game, and probably my favourite place to play as the standard is very good. If its a serious game your after this is the place!!

Finally Star poker Bray have their €25 (20 plus 5 reg) rebut tournament tonight. The number are usually high so id expect 40 plus here.Starting time is 8 and a 10k starting stack and 15 min blinds, you can rebuy so long as your gone before the end of the first break (9.30). Refreshments and food available at break.

WEDNESDAY MADNESS

If by chance I end up going to these tournaments I will try give some kind of report, and once the site is up and running, ill try get reports off the different places wheres there is a game, and hopefully get a few pictures etc.

Last night I decided to venture forth to Bray, and try my luck. This is the Wednesday night cheap game for €20. It had 56 runners, with a few faces I would know from wicklow (Alan, Joey, Eric, Alan and Neil) and then the faces that always seem to be in bray, from Wednesday to Sunday.

I was running a bit behind time and took my seat at around 8.25 on Table E Seat 1. I played 2 hands before I was moved, (got moved 5 times last night) but the last hand i had to watch as it ended up with 3 players all in!! The flop was 9, 6, 10 rainbow, 1 bet, 3 callers. The turn was another 9, again a big bet of around 2k and again 4 callers. The river was an 8. 3 all ins and 1 fold. 1 guy had a straight, the other queens, the other mucked. 30k pot not bad sir!!

As for me I was pretty card dead all night, when I found 7s and pushed, lucky for me they held after 2 callers, but I couldnt find another hand, and when I did, I ran into aces and queens. out in a disappointing 20th. This is what my chips looked like before I pushed!!!!

6 places were paid, with about €340 for the winner. Not bad for a Wednesday night and not enough to break the bank. A good cheap game, if your looking to hone your poker skills, this is the place.

I didnt wait around for the cash game, as there was already 2 full tables and this was 11pm. I noticed a few players only show for these games, so beware......

Where to tonight?

The choice is yours tonight.....

Roundwood. Kicks off at 8.00pm, €35 buy in (30 plus 5 reg, this will include your top up) Im not to sure if you dont want a top up if its €25 or €20. (to be confirmed), think the starting stack is 5k and you can register up to the end of the break. This is a good game with usually 2 full tables. Sometime it can get over 30 players. Blinds are 15 mins (sometimes can go to 20!!). If its good craic and a game of poker your looking for this is the place. Hot food(complimentary) also served on the break. If im right you get an early bird chip if your there before 8, good luck......

Finally, Star Poker Bray, have their scalps night. This is a good tournament from what i believe is the best poker room around. Starts at 8, with late reg up to 9.30 (end of break). €30 buy in (20 plus 5 scalp and 5 reg). 15 min blinds, 10k starting stack, even if you dont make the final table, knock out 6 people and you have your buy in back!! Cash tables available when enough players have been knocked out or usually after 10pm, 25/50c blinds. As usual refreshments available throughout and food available at the break.

Okay so tonight, the only place i know that has anything running is Starpoker, Bray.
Starts at 8.00pm, €20 freezeout (15 plus 5 reg), 10k starting stack, 15 Minute blinds, and late reg up to the end of the first break at 9.30. Complimentary drinks refreshments throughout and food at the break also.

Last week it had 55 runners and the week before around the same, so if its a cheap tournament, with a decent starting stack, then this is the place. Might see you at the tables........ good luck

Local Games Around Wicklow

Okay I will update this page when a new game I hear of, am made aware of, or playing comes up. Games currently being played around wicklow are as follows:

Wednesday : Whistlers Bar, Wicklow Town.

Game currently suspended with a view to getting it back up and running on a thursday night upstairs in the club, rather than down in the pub. I will update as I hear more. Didnt like the payout structure on this particular game when it was played, €20 buy in with 2 €10 rebuys , as it was on a league basis, with a final table after 10 weeks. I think it could be a good game if ran right, with a good structure, blinds, stack etc. 5/10


Wednesday : StarPoker, Seafront, Bray.



The wednesday night game here is a €20 freezeout (15 plus 5 reg) with a starting stack of 10k and 15 minute clock and late reg up to 9.30 (end of break). It had 55 runners last week, and usually pays up to 6th. Free drink throughout (minerals, water) and food at the break. The only thing I dont like about bray (apart from the donks) is the 30 minute break. I know its a casino so im sure they are looking for some of the poker players to pump a few euros into their machines, otherwise the best poker venue around.(in my opinion) Cash game also available but beware!! Ive noticed a few players only show for the cash, the ones I believe can play.......8/10


Thursday : Coach House, Roundwood.

A few weeks back, it had 33 runners!! A pub game with 33 runners.... buy in I think is €35. €30 into the kitty and €5 for registration (my brother chopped for €360 the night with 33 runners, 10 times his buy in). Hot food provided on the break to. I think the starting stack is 5k and the top up the same. If your looking for a game with a bit of craic, then this is the place. Structure could be better, blinds, time levels etc, but its an enjoyable game and some nice people here too. 7/10


Thursday : StarPoker, Seafront, Bray

I havnt played the thursday game in bray in a while as i had 2 of the most horrible beats ever. (ill create a bad beats thread later). 1 thing I admire about Star poker, is they have reduced all the buy ins, probably to help increase numbers but im saying because we are in a recession!!! Anyway, thursdays buy in is €30 (20 plus 5 reg and 5 scalp), and its also a scalp tournament so knock out 6 players and you have at least your buy in back!! Starting stack is 10k and again a 15 minute clock, with late reg up to 9.30. I believe they are getting 40 plus runners for this night to. 8/10


Friday : Doyles Pub, Rathnew

To be honest Ive never played this game, but the site is here to fill you in what games are on. Every cent goes into the payout here, €20 buy in, with topup/rebuy at €10 each, max 3 rebuys. If you happen to be dead before the break there is an option to buy the deadstack and your 3 topups for €50 (have plenty of money with you). Gets 2 tables and sometimes 3, and a cash game usually develops here afterwards and can go on a while!! (no mark as have never played here)


Friday : Kennedy Inn, Newtownmountkennedy

Probably one of the better games around, In my opinion, player wise its the best(If the players here were to play a team event, with 10 players each, they would be hard beaten). €20 buy in with a €20 rebuy/topup, 10K starting stack and 20 mins blinds. The play and players here are quite good, its the one game where i would say its very strong. All the buy ins go straight back out, nothing kept behind. Break is 10 mins, so your not waiting around too long. Usually have 15 players/2 tables 10/10


Friday : Starpoker, Seafront, Bray

Think I might I played once on the Friday tournie in Bray. Its a re-entry tournament. buy in is €25 (20 plus 5 reg). 10k starting stack, 15 mins blinds and your allowed one rebuy if your out before the end of the late registration period (think its 9.30), not sure how many runners they usually get but I cant imagine it being anything less than 30 maybe higher. 8/10


Saturday : Starpoker, Seafront, Bray

I have never played the Saturday Game here, but I believe its the same as the friday tournament. its a re-entry tournament. buy in is €25 (20 plus 5 reg). 10k starting stack, 15 mins blinds and your allowed one rebuy if your out before the end of the late registration period. again I like this poker room, with the free drinks, food etc, once again my only complaint is the break for 30 mins. have been told by a regular probably less than 30 here. 8/10


Sunday : Starpoker, Seafront, Bray

I played with my brother here one sunday night. Buy in is €20 (15 plus 5 reg), 10k starting stack and 15 min blinds. late reg up to 9.30. the night we played I think it had about 35-40 runners. Again no complaints, best poker room around, cash games available too. 8/10

Okay!! so im going to try and give this a good go and report on games throughout the county of wicklow. from pub games, casinos, fundraisers, ill have reports, pictures and details etc.

Ill start off with the weekly game that takes place in the Kennedy inn, Newtown on a Friday night from 8.00pm. Structure is excellent, 10k starting stack for €20, and a further rebuy/Topup of 10k for another €20. blinds 15 mins, every cent paid out in prizefund. Last friday approx 16-17 runners (although some people think this is a small number, there are also games in rathnew & Star Poker Bray both nights).

This is one of my favourite places to play poker, the players are good, as a matter of fact id say some are better than good. some of the play here wouldnt go a miss on the tables in vegas. if its a serious game your after this is the place. now there is there fair share of bluffing and "donking" but overall the game is good.

Friday gone, i believe there was 16/17 runners, sets were flopped only to be beaten by a rivered full house or higher kicker, kings were holding against ace/queen etc.

Winner was Dave (cant remember the surname) but for now lets call him Dave ran like god!! Shortest stack 5 handed, he won some serious all in's to be a 3-1 chip leader heads up with yours truly.

3 handed i had ace king and shoved to be snap called by Jason O'Briens King 10 Hearts. he called that fast i honestly thought he had aces, but he didnt believe i was as strong as i was. the ace king held and we were heads up.

first hand it went "all in". dave raised with queen 9 off, and i called with king 5 spades. flop came, 5, 7, 3. he bet, i called. turn was a queen, and dave bet a bit bigger so i was sure he had the queen, by the way he bet. finally the river gave a 4 to put straight on the board if either of us had the 5. he checked and i pushed all in! he took his time, and it killed him, but he made the hero call to take it down. €250 for the winner, Well done Dave!!
